At St Aloysius Catholic Primary School, the physical and emotional wellbeing of our children is a priority. We place a great deal of importance on PHSE/ RHSE personal development, wellbeing and citizenship as a Catholic school and it is embedded in our ethos and our Mission Statement.
‘Together with Jesus we love, learn and believe’
Our Aims
We nurture and educate our pupils in order to help them develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to live happy healthy and successful lives, now and in the future. Central to our RHSE, personal development, wellbeing and citizenship teaching and learning is the promotion and nurturing of our pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. These aspects of the curriculum are taught through a range of implicit and explicit learning opportunities and are embedded throughout the curriculum. At St Aloysius we have developed our own tailored made curriculum that is bespoke to our school. It is made up of lessons from Jigsaw, Wider Opportunities, Journey in Love and St Aloysius Passport activities. Wider Opportunities is a curriculum that includes local and global issues that are pertinent to our school and local community (railway safety, knife crime, money matters). Objectives are covered during discrete lessons using resources from the following:
- Jigsaw programme of study
- RHSE- Journey in Love
- Wider Opportunities
- Picture News
Objectives are also covered across the curriculum e.g. RE, Science, History, Geography, Music, Art and PE. Events such as assemblies, enrichment activities, St Aloysius Passport activities, trips, visits and visitors and Church celebrations throughout the year also enhance this provision further. Fundamental British Values are promoted through cross curricular links, during PSHE lessons, through the overall aims and objectives of the school which underpin the school Mission statement. Throughout the year, whole school assemblies focus on each of the British Values as well as our School Values. Many of these values are reinforced through our Religious Education programme, and children have regular opportunities to explore them further through Collective Worship.
