Modern Foreign Languages

Spanish at St Aloysius/ Español en San Luis. 🇪🇸

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
– Nelson Mandella

“The conquest of learning is achieved through the knowledge of languages.”
– Roger Bacon

At St Aloysius we passionately believe that learning a second language at an early age is important and benefits our children in many ways. We have chosen to learn Spanish as our second language as it is in the top 5 most spoken languages in the world and it is a place many of our children go to on holiday!

Learning languages at an early age does not only bring linguistic benefits. It can also enhance core cognitive skills, including reasoning, problem solving, and memory, along with improving communication and intercultural skills. Importantly, the songs and play that are a part of early language learning make classes fun, potentially cultivating a long-lasting interest for foreign languages, and motivating children to continue learning as they get older.

We work with School Improvement Liverpool and buy in the services of a specialist Spanish teacher, Senorita Maria, who works with our children from year 1-6.  Senorita Maria is a native Spanish speaker and develops in our children a love of language from an early age.  Many of our children go on to take Spanish as a GCSE or A Level option in secondary school.

Please see the plans below to see what your child will be studying.
