Geography

We are Geographers

Our high quality Geography curriculum will inspire our pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. The teaching of Geography will equip pupils with knowledge about: diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress throughout key stages, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.

EYFS

Our geography curriculum begins in Nursery and into Reception through the Understanding of the World. Through exploration, they develop skills for life in observing, communicating and comparing. Based on the requirements of the EYFS framework and guided by Development Matters, children start to explore the world around them, developing a sense of place, an appreciation of their environment and a curiosity about people, places and cultures across the world.

Every child is encouraged to explore and observe the world around them through hands on, real life experiences.  Through our geography curriculum, children also begin to understand the need to respect and care for the natural environment.

KS1

As children move into KS1, they build on these strong foundations, developing their locational awareness, geographical skills and knowledge of physical and human geography. As well as learning about local geography, children enjoy having the opportunity to learn about different countries and places around the world.

KS2

As children progress into KS2, they extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area. This will include the location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. They develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge
